August 21 - 27: This Week in the 6ix: HARU Pop-Up, Climate Comedy & Chalking

Toronto vegan picks

* UPDATE *.

Quick Reminder:

The Vegan Night Market that was scheduled for tonight Thursday, August 21, 2025 (6:00–9:30 PM) at Balmy Beach has been postponed due to permit delays. The organizers now say Toronto dates are aiming for May 2026, with more details to come.

I should have made this more clear in past editions and sincere apologies for any confusion it may have caused; I noted the change in the July 24 edition but mistakenly left it in the following week’s “upcoming” section. If you had plans to go tonight, please adjust accordingly.

Now to this week’s edition:

This week we are starting off right away with a popup that is starting in 30 mins. HARU is popping up at Thor Espresso (180 John St.) from 11 a.m. until sold out—think savoury lunch options, yakigashi, a Mont Blanc Americano with kokuto syrup and orange-zest cold foam, plus a small-batch vegan tiramisu, both first-come, first-served.

Tomorrow brings Toronto Climate Comedy 3.0 at Society Clubhouse in support of Plant Based Treaty, while Monday’s Vegan Chalking Meetup settles in at Christie Pits for a low-key community hang.

There’s also a full-day Project Livestream on Friday if you want to plug into activism online, and in world news Beyond Meat has denied bankruptcy rumours while it pursues a strategy refresh. Details below.

Buy Vegan — Your vegan-only catalogue for Canada

Everything listed is verified vegan and orderable in Canada. Compare prices across retailers, see where to buy, and skip the label decoding. It’s a catalogue, not a store—we point you to the shops that sell the products. Updated weekly. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome.

What it is (and isn’t)

  • Vegan-only catalogue: every item verified—no label decoding.

  • Canada-ready: listings checked for Canadian shipping or local availability.

  • Where to buy & price look-up: we strive to list all retailers so you can compare.

  • Not a storefront: we don’t sell; we point you to the places that do.

New listings roll out weekly as we grow toward a comprehensive vegan database for Canadian shoppers. Let’s vote with our dollars—and Buy Vegan.

World Vegan News:

  • Beyond Meat says reports that it has filed—or plans to file—for bankruptcy are “unequivocally false,” a statement it issued on August 15 amid online speculation. The denial comes as the company continues to face financial pressure: in Q2 2025, revenue fell nearly 20% to US$75 million and it announced a 6% global workforce reduction, while earlier this year it moved to suspend operations in China. Beyond is also pursuing a strategic refresh, including plans to drop “Meat” from its consumer-facing name and introduce simpler-ingredient products to broaden appeal
