What’s cooking in vegan Toronto

Some food from Vegandale last weekend
How did Vegandale land for you last weekend?
I heard from one attendee who ordered a deep-fried s’more labeled vegan, only to spot gelatin on the marshmallow package after asking to see it. This was alongside wider chatter that many stalls weren’t vegan businesses.
It raises a real tension: do we prioritize spending with fully vegan vendors, or use our dollars to push omni spots to offer (and properly label) better plant-based options?
While that debate continues, here’s what’s concrete for this week: on Sunday, Emily Zimmerman marks 15 years since her first Dep pop-up with an all-plant “Depanniversary” supper at CSI Spadina;
Saturday features a Compassionate Clothing Swap at Wishbone and a one-hour Mercy For Animals action at Rogers Centre.
On the food/news front, Taqueria Vegana has launched a newsletter and is offering 15% off your first website order for local delivery through Sept 14, and abroad, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips go dairy-free (Reese’s Pieces still aren’t vegan due to confectioner’s glaze).
And don’t forget that Veg Fest is next weekend!
