Week of Nov 27 - Dec 3

Your weekly guide to vegan food, events, and activism in Toronto.

With the holiday season starting to pick up, this week’s edition has a bit of everything: a major update from Health Canada on cloned meat policy, some timely deals on vegan-friendly winter wear (including Wuxly’s current sale), and a handful of social events like Vegan Drinks, Flavours Fuel the Future, and Aunty Em’s new holiday pop-up.

There are also a few ways to plug into activism, from online fur-free actions to fundraisers and community outreach with The Burrito Project.

I’ve wrapped up with a quick look at new research on how much a vegan diet can shrink your climate footprint and where the global plant-based market seems to be headed next.

Vegan-only

Buy Vegan — Your vegan-only catalogue for Canada

Everything listed is verified vegan and orderable in Canada. Compare prices across retailers, see where to buy, and skip the label decoding. It’s a catalogue of vegan products and point you to the shops that sell them. As a new site, feedback and suggestions are always welcome.

What it is (and isn’t)

  • Vegan-only catalogue: every item verified—no label decoding.

  • Canada-ready: listings checked for Canadian shipping or local availability.

  • Where to buy & price look-up: we strive to list all retailers so you can compare.

  • Not a storefront: we don’t sell; we point you to the places that do.

New this week:

Give your body the essential support it needs with Sports Research Vegan Omega-3, a clean algae-based source of EPA and DHA. Omega-3 is especially important for vegans, and I take it daily to help maintain balanced nutrition without relying on fish oil.

Right now, you can grab it at a Black Friday sale on Amazon, and iHerb is also running Black Friday deals, making it a great time to stock up and save.

New listings roll out weekly as we grow toward a comprehensive vegan database for Canadian shoppers. Let’s vote with our dollars—and Buy Vegan.

Week of November 27 - December 3:

News:

  • Health Canada has effectively paused a proposed policy change that would have removed foods from the offspring of cloned cattle and pigs from the “novel foods” category, meaning those products could have been sold without a pre-market safety review or mandatory labelling. After consultations that drew concern from consumers, animal advocates, and food-transparency groups, the department announced that the update is indefinitely on hold and that foods from cloned animals and their offspring will remain subject to novel-food assessments for now.

  • This week also brings Black Friday sales all over the place with one example being Wuxly’s 20% off site-wide with code WUXLYBF. Inventory is limited, so if you’re looking for cruelty-free, Canadian-made winter outerwear (coats, puffers, parkas) this sale is a timely opportunity.

Organizers usually ask participants to arrive early so burritos and donations can be prepared and organized before distribution.
