Week of Mar 12 - 18
Bake sale, brunch plans, and a community potluck

New Soy Boys Location on Queen
It’s a quieter mid-March stretch overall, with most activity centred around Wishbone’s new space and a community potluck out in Scarborough.
The Pi Day bake sale on Saturday is the most flexible drop-in option, while Sunday has two overlapping food-focused gatherings that will require a bit more planning.
Worth noting on the local news side: whats happening with the Odd Burger on Church?
This week also feels like a transition period before spring markets and larger festivals begin appearing on calendars in the coming weeks so stay tuned for more action.
This Week:
📅 Saturday, March 14
🕒 11am - 1pm
📍 108 Dundas Street West, 2nd floor
A Pi Day vegan bake sale fundraiser will take place at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab’s new space, The Lab, at 108 Dundas Street West, 2nd floor. Attendees can receive free tea or coffee with a purchase, and all proceeds will support the centre and its community programming. Vegan bakers are invited to donate baked goods (pies encouraged) by emailing [email protected] in advance and bringing ingredient labels, while customers are welcome to drop in with cash to buy treats and support the fundraiser.
📅 Sunday, March 15
🕒 Arrival by 12:15 p.m. (meal at 1:00 p.m.)
📍 Scarborough Village Community Centre: 3600 Kingston Road · Scarborough
A one-year anniversary vegan potluck organized through the Scarborough Vegans Facebook group will begin with arrival by 12:15 p.m., with the meal starting at 1:00 p.m. followed by board games and karaoke. Attendees are asked to bring a vegan dish to serve approximately 4–6 people as well as their own dishes and utensils, and to handle their own clean-up. The gathering is open to veg-curious, vegetarian, and vegan participants as long as all shared food is fully vegan.
📅 Sunday, March 15
🕒 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
📍 108 Dundas Street West, 2nd Floor
🎟️ Ticket required: $43.93
A limited-capacity vegan brunch hosted by 5 Principles Cuisines at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab. The event is structured as a seated buffet-style dining experience and is intended for attendees who want a planned food outing rather than a casual drop-in social.
(Event details are accurate to the best of my knowledge at the time of publishing. Events are intended to be vegan, but details may change, please confirm directly with the organizer if you have specific concerns.)
Product of the Week
Each week, I share a vegan product I personally use or recommend. Some links are affiliate links, at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products I genuinely stand behind.
⭐ Spotlight: Attitude Dishwasher Tablets Attitude is a Quebec-based company that is cruelty-free and offers many vegan products, and these tablets use a plant- and mineral-based formula designed to clean effectively without leaving residue. They also come in fully recyclable cardboard packaging with a dissolvable protective film, making them a simple lower-waste choice for everyday use. |
Worth Noting:
Odd Burger
There does not appear to be any official announcement confirming a permanent closure of the Odd Burger location at 229 Church Street, and no recent media coverage clearly stating that the restaurant has shut down. Anecdotally, a member of a local Toronto Vegan Facebook group recently reported seeing a “for lease” sign posted in the window, which may indicate uncertainty around the future of this particular location.
Soy Boys
I recently stopped by the new(ish) Soy Boys location on Queen East. I’ve always liked their burgers, but what stood out this time was the value of the combo. You get a filling burger, a very generous portion of waffle fries, and a drink for $14.90. This spot also offers draft beer and a broader drink menu compared to their other location. If you’re in the mood for waffle cone afterwards, Honey’s is right next door. 🍦
