Week of Jul 23 - 29
From activism to dinner tables to something new on the horizon.

Protein waffles from Kupfert & Kim
This week’s lineup covers a pretty wide range of what the vegan community in Toronto looks like right now, from more serious, purpose-driven spaces to slower, more intentional ways of gathering, all the way to casual social events where the goal is simply to meet new people over good food.
Depending on what you’re in the mood for, there are a few very different ways get out.
There’s also a small but encouraging update on the local vegan scene (which we definitely need more of lately), plus something a bit more niche for anyone thinking beyond just eating out, especially if creating or sharing vegan food is part of your world.
Let’s get into the week ahead:
This Week:
📅 Sunday, July 26, 2026
🕒 1:00–4:00 p.m.
📍 Royal Ontario Museum, 92 Queen’s Park
🎟️ Free
This Anonymous for the Voiceless street outreach event uses standard animal agriculture footage and one-on-one conversations to engage the public about animal exploitation. It’s an activist event for volunteers rather than a casual meetup, and participants are asked to arrive prepared, wear plain black clothing, and review the volunteer briefing in advance.
📅 Monday, July 27, 2026
🕒 3:45–4:30 p.m.
📍 Sorauren Farmers’ Market, 50 Wabash Ave
🎟️ $25
This is a seated harvest lunch at Sorauren Farmers’ Market featuring Chef Mehyo El Jawhary and a Lebanese-Palestinian-inspired seasonal menu built around what’s fresh that day. It’s a communal market meal with limited spots, and tickets are tied to the selected seating time.
📅 Tuesday, July 28, 2026
🕒 7:00–9:00 p.m.
📍 Greens Vegetarian Restaurant, 638 Dundas St W
🎟️ CA$28.61
A social evening for vegan singles looking to meet new people over a vegan Asian dinner at Greens Vegetarian Restaurant. The event is framed as a chance for dating, friendship, or simply a relaxed night of conversation and food.
(Event details are accurate to the best of my knowledge at the time of publishing. Events are intended to be vegan, but details may change, please confirm directly with the organizer if you have specific concerns.)
Worth Noting:
With so many closures it’s nice to have some news about an opening! Avo Organic Kitchen soft-opened on May 30, 2026 at 1763 Avenue Rd and describes itself as serving “organic comfort food” made with 100% plant-based ingredients, including gluten-free, organic, and locally sourced options where possible. Its online material and social posts position it as a healthy, approachable plant-based spot, and I am definitely looking forward to checking it out.
The International Vegan Film Festival’s vegan cookbook contest is open for 2026, and it’s one of the festival’s signature ways of highlighting vegan food culture alongside films. Entries must be submitted online by July 31, 2026, and physical books or advance reading copies must arrive by August 31, 2026; eligible books are first editions in English published in 2025 or 2026.
The contest asks for four print copies or ARCs for judging, plus a short synopsis and a high-resolution cover image, and the entry fee is US$30. Shortlisted books get recognition through the festival’s website and social channels, and the top three winners receive Gold, Silver, or Bronze seals plus a monetary prize and festival recognition in Toronto.
