Week of Aug 6 - 12
A quieter week, with two ways to connect and take action on Sunday.

This week is slower than last week’s packed lineup, with just two events on the calendar. Both take place on Sunday afternoon, offering different ways to spend the day: one focused on vegan outreach and animal advocacy, and the other on relaxed conversation over plant-based drinks and snacks.
There’s also an important international development worth noting, as plans for the world’s first commercial octopus farm have been withdrawn after years of opposition from scientists and animal-welfare campaigners.
The decision is a significant victory and some welcomed good news for this mid-summer edtion.
This Week:
📅 Sunday, August 9, 2026
🕒 1:00 p.m.
📍 Bay and Bloor, southeast corner, 1175 Bay St
🎟️ Free
A public vegan outreach event organized by Anonymous for the Voiceless. Volunteers display footage from animal agriculture and speak with members of the public about animal rights and veganism; masks, signs, outreach cards, and screens are provided, but participants are expected to review the organization’s outreach guidelines in advance.
📅 Sunday, August 9
🕒 1:00–3:00 p.m.
📍 Animal Liberation Kitchen, 202-100 Broadview Ave
🎟️ Free; drinks and snacks available for purchase
A small-group meetup for relaxed conversation over vegan drinks and snacks at Animal Liberation Kitchen. The event is open to vegans and plant-curious guests, with name tags available to help people connect; there are currently no spots left, but you can join the waitlist.
(Event details are accurate to the best of my knowledge at the time of publishing. Events are intended to be vegan, but details may change, please confirm directly with the organizer if you have specific concerns.)
Worth Noting:
Nueva Pescanova has withdrawn plans for a proposed octopus farm in Gran Canaria after years of opposition from scientists, animal-welfare organisations, and members of the public. Critics argued that keeping octopuses in communal tanks could lead to aggression and cannibalism, while feeding them an estimated 28,000 tonnes of wild-caught fish would put additional pressure on marine ecosystems and food supplies. More than 42,000 emails opposing the project were sent to the Port Authority, although the company cited administrative delays and regulatory requirements as the official reasons for withdrawing its application and has not ruled out pursuing a similar project elsewhere.
